Is it legal to have sex at the age of 13!?!?

I was reading this question about a 13 and 15 year old sleeping together and half of those answers saying it it legal as long you have protection.. Why are they trying to promote teenage sex? As soon as that boy leaves her for another, she will be on a emotional roller coaster because of some idiot who probably don't even know how to tie his shoes!





P.S: I'm don't plan on having any sex anytime soon.. But I don't want to give it up on marriage... I plan to give it up to a guy who truly loves me and respects me.. :) And that may take years...

I saw the question too! That is unbeliveable. Wow, I really need to learn how to spell. I live in California and I'm guessing they have no age consent. I agree with you. And she was going to do it anyways. It's sick how our peers are sleeping around with each other age consent or not! They don't have enough sense to take care of a child at that age! They haven't even gotten a college degree yet, let alone a high school diploma. Honestly, if there was someway to keep out peers from having sex, I would have it enforced RIGHT AWAY. There's this guy Damiel in my class, I've known him since we were little! And he is going around asking girls to come over to his house after school and sleep with him. Honestly, Damiel has problems so thats just him. But anybody should have enough sense to know that they don't how on earth they can support a baby. I mean don't they know about STDS and stuff like that. It's really sad how America is now. Before, if you had sex before you were married, you'd be in big trouble. But this was like in the 1800's or something like that. But this country was way more undercontrol! It sick how many of our peers and having sex that don't even know what can happen to them!

Reply:Yes it is.. If the 13 yr old girl wanted to get pregnant go for no protection. Im not one on having sex at such a young age...Its prefectly legal of course.
Reply:I was one of those answerers who said it was legal. That's because it is. They're BOTH under the age of consent (which should tell them something), so it is legal. I also told them to not have sex, and that if they do, they definitly need to use protection.

Reply:I think it should be illegal. Actually, i think it should be illegal for anybody under the age of consent to have sex, myself. I'm 15 and I'm lucky enough to end up in a crowd of people who don't want to have sex until marriage/when the find the right person no matter how long it takes, but my friends' friends are actively having sex behind their parents' backs. Now, i get irritated with my mother tells me that I can not be "too close" to any boyfriend of mine, but even though I'd want to be close to him, doesn't mean i want to really have sex with him.





I don't think teenagers need to be having sex, myself. I've thought about having sex, and I'm sure it would feel.. gosh.. amazing! But even though having sex sounds appealing, i wouldn't do it at 13. I remember myself at 13. I was not NEAR mature enough to handle it, and if I got pregnant? I'd have probably killed myself. I had this very strange dislike of young children/babies.





I hope this helped. In many states, having sex before at least highschool is illegal, but, also, in many places, you are allowed to even when you're still in middle school. It's a crying shame the way we tend to make sex more and more ok.. When i first learned about sex, i instantly learned that that was made babies so i was always afraid to do it before marriage, but it seems like a lot of middleschoolers and even highschoolers have no idea that having sex makes you get pregnant 95% of the time. That's what I think is just pathetic.

Reply:Great that u have a good head on ur shoulders! I am like u in that way. But I don't understand why there are :legal" ages to have sex. People just will go an do it anyway. Like my 14 year old sister who is 4 months pregnant with triplets!

Reply:It IS legal.. As long as you don't have sex with someone older than 18, when you are younger than 18, it is completely legal :/

Reply:No. If not it should be. You have to wait until you have the sense to know what's best for yourself and that isn't 13, or 15 either.
Reply:In Pennsylvania it is legal to have sex at 13, as long as the older partner is no more than 4 years older than the younger. I don't think it's right and I would never promote teenage sex. But, if a young man or woman is absolutely set on having sex, I would rather see them use protection than go without and risk pregnancy.

I usually reply to those questions with a version of "legally yes, but promise you'll read up on birth control at scarleteen.com first ok?" Just to do my part to try and reduce teenage pregnancy
Reply:I think in a case like that, it should be illegal, but the parents need to be punished. the children (yes, children) should be required to go to a series of sex ed classes.





Punishing the teens would only push them to do it again. They need to be educated.

If the boy was 16 (or 17 in Texas as you pointed out), then it could have been considered statutory rape. That is how the law works.

They are just saying since some of teens in 13-17 are having sex, just in the event you are one of those teens you should use protection
Reply:its illegal for a 13 year old to have sex with a 15 year old. A women from the rape crisis center came to our school and explained all the laws to us. It is considered statutory rape even though the 15 year old isn't even legally an adult. When the 13 year old turns 14 years old tho, they follow the 3 year rule.
