How do you dress to hang out with celebrities if you're not a celebrity?

It's a long story I won't go into, but my wife and I are attending a party in Austin tomorrow night with a lot of national celebs. I feel silly just wearing a regular suit. I'm trying to build some social capital and I don't want to look like a "regular guy" that got invited to a fancy party.

These aren't rock 'n rollers - it'll be a mixture of filmmaker types and authors and artists. I'd be considered a "lesser" author and artist, that's why I'm going. I was thinking of doing some greyish slacks, a black sport jacket that has a very modern cut, and a brown, striped shirt with french cuffs, no tie, and a matching pocket square. I have a pair of black shoes that will also work nicely.

I have a large wardrobe, I have plenty of money to shop. The question - do I try to look a bit hip, or go with something traditional.

FYI - I actually do look just like my avatar, just a bit heavier.

How do you dress to hang out with celebrities if you're not a celebrity?
You need to dress hip a little bit, but dont over do it to the point where they are like..umm who is this guy. You want your personality to shine through, but you dont want to come off as showy or fake in anyway. I would say what your outfit is described as is nice. French cuffs are very hot right now and show that you know what is up in the fashion industry. It sounds to me that you know a thing or two about fashion, and you should def. go with it!

Check out what the celebs are going to be wearing. http://www.whatcelebswear.com

You can search by celebrity, brand or articule of clothing.
Reply:Why do you even feel the need to impress anyone. Celebs put their clothes on the same way you do one leg at a time. No one changes in a phone booth, thats just a superman myth. If you really want to look hip and with it, wear the style of the party. Blue jeans tee-shirt, sandles.

The only one you need to impress is Jesus and he don't care what you wear. a2J
Reply:Whatever are you going on about ? It seems that you think these people care what you wear, remember celebrities are the same as us, just be yourself and don't try to impress anyone, let them accept you for who you are, which should be an individual. Have a good time.
Reply:Okay, black is good. The more black the better. Not only is black very 'in' this season, but it is also traditional and hip, can be dressed up or dressed down. I would say a very trendy suit. If you have money to shop, I would go with Armani. His suits are very sharp. Give me a minute, I'll get you a link to some sites.

Reply:I have been to numerous parties such as this. Some celebs will take any event and try and turn it into a fashion show. My # 1 rule was always BE COMFORTABLE AND FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF!

Why don't you go check out some magazines like US Weekly, or In Touch or In Style and see what the male celebs are wearing at most of these casual events. I almost think a pocket square it too much without a tie.

Some slacks, nice shoes and a nice dress shirt would look great and hip. Reflect your own style! Remember most of thee people are "artists" of some type and did not get to be where they are today by having their movies and books be "like everyone else"!
